About the event
This Discourse explores a fundamental idea. We ask, “Why has America earned, increasingly since World War One and until today, a position of primacy in the world? In other words, why is American preeminent? Or, to use the language of Secretary of State Madeleine Albright (1997-2001), why had the United States become the “indispensable nation?” In this Discourse, to be held in Dedham, will use a speech that Bono, lead singer for the Band U2, delivered as a commencement address to the graduating classes of 2004 at the University of Pennsylvania. Bono explains in that speech why he loves America which he refers to as “a great country” and “a great idea.” Discourse participants will be able to articulate what ideas they think makes America arguably the most important nation in the world.
