About the event

Synopsis

In this Discourse, at a time when a builder has expressed his plans to build a large business and residential complex in Dedham forests which have been wooded since the early days of our republic, we stop to consider just what makes a town “our town.” What beauty lies around us? What are we at risk of losing? Do we fail to appreciate that with which we are endowed?

We’ll likely discuss whether we who love Dedham will stand idly by whilst, as Joni Mitchell sang in 1970, “They paved Paradise and put up a parking lot”? As food for thought, to seed our discussion, participants in this Discourse watch an American theatrical treasure, Thornton Wilder’s play, Our Town. Because the event will occur at TLC in Dedham Square, not at Matt’s house, vittles will differ from the norm. Fear not, however, popcorn will be served. Discussion will follow…
